RHETORICAL AND IMAGINARY IN I. NEGOIŢESCU’S CRITICAL PROSE
(Abstract)

In this essay we explore a type of “mixed discourse” analysed by Paul Ricoeur – critical discourse – grounding our reflection on the analysis of Poezia lui Eminescu by I. Negoiţescu. In the first part “Métaphore in absentia et vision”, we highlight the creation of metaphor–images in Negoiţescu’s prose, analyzing the analogical trope “metaphor in absentia” with regard to noun, adjective and verb. In the second part “Métaphore in præsentia et transmutation”, we concentrate on the analogical trope “metaphor in præsentia” through examples characteristic of Negoiţescu’s Imaginary. We demonstrate how the “nocturnal writing” of rêverie – derived from Eminescu’s lexicon and verbal expressions which become veritable linguistic centers of Negoiţescu’s prose – is then inserted into the “diurnal writing” of his thought.
